In order to support the training of junior scientists and future university lecturers at institutions of higher education in East African countries, DAAD signed cooperation agreements with the governments of Kenya and Rwanda to jointly fund doctoral training and research in Germany.

The programmes target well qualified academic personnel of public and private universities in Kenya and Rwanda whose Master’s degree is not older than 6 years.

Individual research projects under the academic supervision of a university professor or the participation in a structured PhD programme offered by a public or private university in Germany can be funded.

Rwanda

Up to 20 scholarships can be awarded annually. While the funding is generally open to all research fields and topics, the Government of Rwanda has set priority areas. Currently, those are: Agriculture, Natural Resources, Health, Engineering, Infrastructure, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Education

Applications are only possible only via the DAAD online portal.

We will keep you posted on this in the near future.

Kenya

Up to 30 scholarships can be awarded annually. The funding is open to all fields without any thematic restriction.

Applicants submit their documents via the DAAD Online Portal.
