Find below the most important funding opportunities for researchers and lecturers.

The research grant offers the opportunity to realise a research project in Germany.

Requirements:

  • Doctoral students: The start of your doctorate should not be more than 3 years ago at the application deadline.
  • Postdocs: You should not have completed your doctorate more than 4 years before the application deadline.

For fields of human medicine, veterinary medicine and dentistry, other regulations applicable. Please refer to www.daad.de/extrainfo.

Benefits:

  • Monthly allowance: 1,400 Euros
  • Health and liability insurance
  • Travel allowance
  • Annual research allowance: 460 Euros
  • Preceding German language course (if necessary)
  • Rent subsidy (where applicable)
  • Monthly allowance for accompanying family members (where applicable)

Duration:

  • 2 to 12 months for doctorate students; 2 to 6 months for postdoc.

Application deadline: 24 September 2025 for May 2026 start. 17 March 2026 for September 2026 start.

This programme promotes exchanges with scientists and academics from partner countries to improve international relations and bilateral research cooperations.

Requirements:

  • Employed at a research institution or university in your home country.
  • Advance coordination with German host institution on date and purpose of your stay.
  • A visit of German counterpart must be confirmed.

Benefits:

  • Monthly allowance: 2,000 Euros for assistant teachers, assistant professors and lecturers; 2,150 Euros for professors
  • Health insurance. Please note: Health insurance coverage is mandatory in Germany. If you do not have a corresponding home health insurance, you will be insured by the DAAD. The costs will be deducted from the scholarship payment.
  • Unless otherwise regulated by bilateral agreements, the costs of the outward and return journey are borne by the respective sending country.

Duration:

  • 14 days up to 3 months.

Application deadline: 24 September 2025 for May 2026 start. 17 March 2026 for September 2026 start.
