  • UNILEAD Eastern Africa 2024: “Strengthening University Leadership and Management”

    For two weeks in June 2024, twenty-four middle-level university leaders and managers from different universities in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Ethiopia participated in UNILEAD Eastern Africa 2024  and were equipped with essential skills and knowledge to enhance their institutions' operations and governance.  The training themed “Strengthening University Leadership and Management” was hosted by Rongo University in partnership with Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, and was the first phase of training, made up of three modules.

  • The Call for Application for the Erasmus+ Networking Forum EU-Higher Education Cooperation between Germany and Eastern-Africa is out!

    The Erasmus+ National Agency for Higher Education at DAAD and the DAAD Regional Office in Nairobi invite higher education representatives from Germany, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan to take part in Erasmus+ Networking Forum in Nairobi. The application for African higher education representatives is now open!

  • DAAD's SDG Alumni Projects: Establishing networks and cooperation at the eLearning Africa Conference in Kigali

    This May, an SDG Alumni Project, within the framework of eLearning Africa 2024, combined two international alumni training seminars; one in Buea, Cameroon, and another in Nairobi, Kenya, with participation in an eLearning Africa Conference 2024 in Kigali, Rwanda.

  • DAAD strengthens German teacher training in sub-Saharan Africa

    The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is launching a digital competence network for German teachers in sub-Saharan African countries. With the "GFL- Competence Network Sub-Saharan Africa", it is responding to the increased demand for German as a foreign language (GFL) and promoting the academic training of experienced German teachers. The programme is being funded by the Federal Foreign Office with a total of 1.2 million euros until the end of 2026.

  • Refugees equipped to apply for the Leadership for Africa Scholarship Programme

    The DAAD introduced a new scholarship programme “Leadership for Africa” (LfA) four years ago, with an aim of supporting young refugees and national scholars from selected countries to pursue their master’s degrees in Germany.  This year, LfA applicants must be citizens of either Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, or Uganda, or refugees residing in either of these countries.

  • Mental health: the unspoken pandemic

    The Kenya DAAD Scholars Association (KDSA), in partnership with South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) in Kitui, held its first physical event in years from May 20-22, a three-day conference titled "Mental Health Pandemic among Kenyan Academia: Sharing Experiences and Building Resilience among the Odds."

  • Rethinking museums

    A contemporary design for African and European museums is the goal of TheMuseumsLab. The programme, which the DAAD launched in cooperation with other organisations in 2021 and has supported financially ever since, brings together 50 museum professionals from Africa and Europe each year, providing them with a broad platform for sharing knowledge and perspectives.
