The new Ambassador for Kenya, Sebastian Groth, visited the DAAD Regional Office in Nairobi on November 16, 2022, and got insights into the DAAD’s work, tasks, and premises. Ambassador Groth started his diplomatic career as a cultural attaché in Kenya twenty years ago. He knows the area well and talked to the staff at the regional office about his thoughts and experiences.

DAAD programme tasks, university partnerships, and academic exchange were in the foreground, but so was the topic of the EU and promoting the European education area. 2023 is an anniversary year for the DAAD Regional Office, which will be 50 years old, and for Kenyan-German diplomatic relations, which can celebrate 60 years of good cooperation and partnership.

Joint plans are being made to mark the anniversaries. The DAAD has built up a large regional alumni network over the past 50 years and contributes to science diplomacy with its many experts and partners.

The DAAD office in Nairobi works well with the Embassy and is close to it. The staff is looking forward to continuing to work well together.
