Alumni

In the eyes of the DAAD, the end of a funding period marks the beginning of a long-standing relationship with us. We aim to stay in touch with our alumni as well as help you get to know one another through a series of programmes and activities. We also support you in setting up regional DAAD alumni clubs and other forms of networking opportunities.
DAAD Regional Office for East Africa celebrates 50th anniversary
In September 1973, the DAAD opened a small office in Nairobi, Kenya. The DAAD branch office soon transformed into a regional office for East Africa and is now responsible for Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan and Ethiopia.
To celebrate, we are planning a series of events and have launched an anniversary website providing the history of DAAD Nairobi and alumni portraits.

Germany is a well-respected partner country for higher education, business, and diplomacy. German-East African academic and diplomatic relations, which mark 60 years in 2023, have shaped the biographies of many African academics and alumni who are visible in the regional diversity, across cultures, subject disciplines, and academic traditions. The following events are planned for the 50-year celebration.
