DAAD Alumni Kenya hold a workshop on AI and Emerging Technologies at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology
The VC cited research collaborations, mobility for students and staff and funding from bodies such as DAAD as some of the ongoing collaborations between Germany and DeKUT. During the session with the VC, the team from DAAD also had the opportunity of exchanging ideas with Dr. Ann Kirungumi, the Head of the International Office at DeKUT.
Team DAAD Kenya also attended a workshop on Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies, which was organised by and executed by DAAD Alumni, of which most of the 35 alumni of the workshop were lecturers from 15 different Universities across Kenya. During the workshop, alumni in the field of IT made presentations on emerging issues in technology such as AI, and how alumni can leverage on the current opportunities presented by IT.

DAAD, represented by Anja Bengelstorff, engaged alumni on research and exchange of academics’ scholarships currently available by DAAD and the EU. A lot of questions during Anja’s session from alumni emerged, especially on the qualifications and potential collaborations with universities in Germany.
During the visit to DeKUT, DAAD Kenya also paid a visit to the African Heroes Gardens. Later, DAAD officials went for a learning visit to the Virtual Mechatronics Lab at DeKUT, where DAAD alumnus Prof. Sir John Bosco, explained about some of the VR projects by students, demonstrated real time control of XArm7 robot and discussed cutting edge research in automation that they are working on such as Human Anatomy.
A heartfelt thank you to the DAAD alumni who continue doing phenomenal work in their different areas of specialization. DAAD alumni engagement, through our funding for alumni activities in the different countries of representation is part of our ongoing commitment to support academic exchange and foster research collaboration between Kenya and Germany.
Be on the lookout for more upcoming DAAD alumni activities in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda!
