DAAD hosts an Open Day for Kenyans seeking funding opportunities to Germany
The Open Day was necessitated by some of the scholarships currently running whose deadlines are fast approaching. Through information sessions, one-on-one consultations with DAAD Kenya Program Officers, and printed materials on available scholarships such as the Development-Related Postgraduate Courses (EPOS) and Helmut-Schmidt-Programme (Public Policy and Good Governance-PPGG), as well as the In-Country/In-Region Sub-Saharan Scholarship programme, attendees had the opportunity to explore academic pathways and funding possibilities offered by DAAD. Attendees were interested in PhD Scholarships, Masters Scholarships, Bachelor programmes or Summer programmes.
Margaret Kirai, of DAAD gave a welcome note, the Program Officers Jules Onyango, Chris Lasmothey, and Charity Tongoi then took the different groups through the scholarships.

As visitors walked in at different intervals during the open day and had sessions every top of the hour, other concurrent activities took place included Quiz sessions, handled by Vera Bwire and the temporary staff Sally, of which the quiz was well appreciated by the attendees. Many attendees appreciated: Informative sessions and discussions, different scholarship programs available, question and answer sessions, quiz on Germany and studying in Germany, IEC materials provided/ guidebooks on study in Germany, one on one sessions with consultants and video sessions.

Overall, the event was a huge success. Some notable take-home quotes from the attendees for DAAD were: “Thank you for advertising through your social media handles, because that’s how I learnt about this“. Another one said: “Keep up the good job“, among many other comments DAAD received.
The DAAD Open Day is part of our ongoing commitment to support academic exchange and foster research collaboration between Kenya and Germany. DAAD looks forward to having another Open Day and welcoming many more interested participants who are ready to take the next step in their academic journey.
